The Northwest Territories SPCA has gotten a welcome Christmastime gift from animal-loving philanthropists, Eric and Dana Margolis.
The no-kill animal shelter in Yellowknife announced on Facebook Wednesday that it had received $24,000 from the Eric S. Margolis Foundation.
The foundation supports organizations around the world that provide safety to abused and abandoned animals, and advocates for stronger laws against animal cruelty.
Eric Margolis, the organization’s founder and namesake, is a journalist and owner of Jamieson Vitamins.
“We are so very grateful to this generous and amazing foundation of being supporters of northern rescues,” the NWT SPCA stated in its Facebook post.
“Thank you from the bottom of our paws! We can do so much with this gift!”
The NWT SPCA took care of 555 dogs in 2016-17, as well as 97 cats, four rabbits, two ferrets, one finch and several girbils. Thirty-four animals were born at the shelter.
In that same period of time, the organization helped find new homes for 313 animals, and another 313 dogs were transferred to shelters in the south, which assisted in re-homing efforts.
