Yellowknife RCMP located an “extensively damaged” vehicle along Highway 3 over the weekend after responding to a report of a single vehicle collision – but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Mounties arrived at the site of the wreck, at km 308 near Boundary Creek, around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, only to find the vehicle, which appeared to have rolled into a ditch, empty.

It wasn’t until “later on,” according to a news release issued by RCMP Monday afternoon, that police received word a woman – who police apparently believe is linked to the accident – had shown up at Stanton Territorial Hospital “following a motor vehicle accident,” with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. They’ve now closed an investigation into the accident.
