Police are investigating an early morning assault after they say a man sustained what appeared to be stab wounds downtown.

RCMP came upon the scene of the assault, near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and 52 Street, where the RBC bank is located, around 4:45 a.m. Friday.

A 52-year-old man was found at the scene.

He “appeared to be suffering from stabbing wounds,” say police. The man was transported to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area between 50 and 52 Street, and 50 to 53 Avenue to come forward.

What appeared to be blood was observed at the entrance to the RBC Bank on Franklin Avenue Friday morning, shortly after police reopened the roadway after using police tape to cordon off the area. Brendan Burke/NNSL Media.
