Yk Legion launching Poppy campaign, need businesses to host coin boxes

The Royal Canadian Legion Vincent Massey Branch #164 is seeking support from businesses in Yellowknife for their annual Poppy Campaign. They are asking to allow poppy boxes to be placed in businesses around the community and to allow a Legion volunteer into the location if they have space for it. Also for sale are 14” wreaths with stands available for storefronts or business displays at $55 per wreath.

The 2020 Poppy Campaign runs from Oct. 30 to Nov 11, for more information about the campaign can email the Royal Canadian Legion Vincent Massey Branch #164 at emailpoppybranch164@gmail.com.

According to the Royal Canadian Legion website the red poppy was first introduced to Canada by Lieutenant-Colonel John McRae of Guelph, Ontario during the First World War, who penned the poem 'In Flanders Fields' on May 3, 1915.
