A Kimmirut man was arrested after police received a complaint about a male discharging a firearm outside a residence Jan. 8.

“Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the male had attended the residence and demanded his wife exit. When his wife did not comply he shot one round into the residence,” stated the RCMP in a news release.

The man’s wife exited the residence, and he allegedly physically assaulted her before they returned to their home. The man was arrested without incident.
Simeonie Itturiligaq, 23, faces numerous firearm-related charges.

RCMP are asking Nunavummiut to secure their firearms for public safety, issuing a reminder that free trigger locks are available at detachments.

“We want to remind the public to properly store their firearms and ammunition, complete with trigger and/or cable locks and secured in a locked gun cabinet,” according to an RCMP statement.
